What is intercultural communication?
Intercultural communication refers to the way we communicate and behave with people from other cultures. These other cultures are not just national but organizational, generational, religious. Globalization and the rise of remote work has imposed communication with other cultures we might not have previously rubbed up against and we may not really know, well, how to do it. It is impossible to know about every culture but Curios gives you the tools to be curious, to recognize bias and communicate more confidently and effectively with others. Some of the topics we look at include different cultural models; tools for dealing with cultural misunderstandings; working in multicultural teams; and the dominance of English.
Better communication leads to more harmonious organizations where people make the time and effort to understand each other and iron out misunderstandings that might simply be two people approaching a problem from different cultural standpoints. Happier people are more productive. Widening our understanding of different ways of doing things stretches our minds and we can become more creative, and more adaptable which are tremendous skills to have. And of course there is a knock-on benefit for all society, as opening our communication channels to others increases our respect for people who are different to us. After all, everyone is different to someone!
