What is emotional intelligence?

Emotional intelligence means understanding emotions, taking charge of them and using them wisely in our interactions. They are not confined to our personal relationships - emotions exist in both our personal and professional lives and should not be neglected. Curios helps you pinpoint your own emotions so you can better read the wellbeing of others around you, and engage in wiser, more empathic connections. We look at the science of emotion and how our backgrounds and cultures shape our emotional expression. We explore how to regulate our emotions (which doesn’t mean quashing them!) and to capitalize on them for decision-making. We learn how to better cultivate empathy in ourselves and others.

I think of emotional intelligence as a kind of literacy, and we all have the capacity to become more literate. Increased emotional intelligence leads to healthier personal and professional relationships and helps our mental health. Managing our feelings strengthens our ability to resolve conflicts and equips us with resilience to bounce back from the hard times. It is integral to smart leadership.
